Our downtown district is a unique neighborhood that welcomes those new to Keokuk, preserves our architectural history while continuing to operate as the economic center of our community.  The rich architectural legacy of our downtown is a part of our community’s identity, and as such, special requirements for the use and renovation of these properties has been created by the City of Keokuk with the valued input of Main Street Keokuk, Inc.  A copy of the Architectural Design Standards Ordinance adopted by the City of Keokuk in 2009 to assist in the preservation of our downtown district can be downloaded in PDF format below.
 
As a building owner or a business operator in our central business district, these requirements must be met for any exterior renovation of an historic building in Keokuk.
